About

Hi!  Welcome to my blog.

Whether you were a reader of my previous blog or you have no idea who I am, here’s a little bit of what you can expect to see here:

  • Ramblings about different facets of my life as a new mom, desperate housewife, and crazy dog lady (see disclaimer #1).
  • Silly postings on things I deem to be cool and entertaining (see disclaimer #2).
  • A personalized, journalistic record of my thoughts, opinions, and experiences (see disclaimer #3).

Disclaimer #1:  May include things like mushy odes to my son, creepy letters to Kate Middleton, and recipes for homemade dog biscuits.

Disclaimer #2:  Be forewarned: I have a low standard for what I consider entertaining, and have a tendency to share links that have been floating around the internet for years prior to my discovery of them.  I also like country music and other things  commonly considered “uncool.”

Disclaimer #3:  In other words, it’s all about me.

If you’re okay with all this, welcome aboard.

Hi Lara,
I just read your husband’s blog about the process of getting a UK visa and need some help! Here’s a little about me:

I am an American (born and raised in Cali) and I met my Scottish fiance while studying abroad in Edinburgh. I only just came to Cali yesterday, as my tourist visa expired, but had been in Scotland for 9 months before on a student visa (so, I was there for 15 months total, with a 3 week trip back to L.A. in between). It’s so difficult to be apart from him, especially since he proposed to me on Christmas Eve (so we had only been engaged for 5 days before I had to leave the country). But now that I’m back, I’m finally able to apply for the fiance visa, only that there’s an early snag I hit while trying to apply for it online. There is no category that specifically says fiance, only husband, wife, marriage, and proposed civil partner. Which category would I choose if I plan on marrying in the UK with the intention to settle there?
ANY help would be much appreciated, as your husband’s blog is the most detailed I’ve seen, and feel no one else can help (don’t currently have the money to seek legal advice, so am doing this purely on what I’ve read online).

Thank you!

Hi Amanda,
Congratulations on your engagement! It would be the marriage category, as you intend to marry. This is the best summary of info I have: http://matt.siteb.co.uk/index.php/our-visas/uk-fiance-visa/
Good luck!
