Our Thanksgiving Menu

by Lara on November 23, 2011

Just a quick post to share our Thanksgiving menu this year:

Apple-butternut squash soup

Cheesy chive biscuits (based on this recipe from Real Simple)

Brined and roasted turkey (see below) and giblet gravy

Honey nut brussel sprouts

Sweet potatoes with pecans and parmesan

Cranberry-orange sauce

Cornbread stuffing (this is my one “cheat” dish…I bought a box from Trader Joe’s)

Caramelized pumpkin and pear crumble with vanilla ice cream

I am ever-so-intimated about cooking my first turkey, which is why I have consulted a multitude of resources about the best method. ย In doing so, I have come up with a hybrid “recipe,” involving the following:

…and last, but not least, a turkey brine and herb kit from Whole Foods.

The common denominator from most of these sources are as follows: brining is best; cook the bird mostly breast-side down; and if turkey is the priority, it is best to cook the stuffing on the side.

If I mess this up, it will not be from a lack of research or resources. ย Wish me luck, and enjoy your holiday!

May your stuffing be tasty

May your turkey plump,

May your potatoes and gravy

Have never a lump.

May your yams be delicious

And your pies take the prize,

And may your Thanksgiving dinner

Stay off of your thighs!

Very impressive menu! I’m sure everything will turn out great. Plus, it’s really about making some great memories and not necessarily the “perfect meal,” right? Well, that’s what I’m telling my family anyways… ๐Ÿ˜‰

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Aw, thanks for the shout out Lara! Your turkey will turn out delicious! Did you also decide to use one of those oven bags that makes it cook faster/ traps the moisture in? Regardless I am sure it’ll be amazing, and I can’t wait to hear all about it ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy Thanksgiving! xoxox

It turned out great! Probably won’t do a recap since I included recipes in this post already, and my photos of food lately are craptacular. Hope your holiday was nice, too!

HI Lara, what an amazing looking menu. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Just catching up on your last post too. Belated Happy Birthday to your husband. Know what??? He has a long lost twin brother here in Vancouver – our friend Trevor and he…could be twins. Holy smokes…the resemblance is uncanny!!! Wow… All the best for the weekend.
