Top 10: Most Intriguing Infomercial Products

by Lara on January 10, 2012

Lately, I’ve been doing something I never, ever do: watching daytime television.  I haven’t been feeling great, it’s rainy outside, and well, TV has become my new guilty pleasure.

One thing that has struck me since I last indulged in daytime TV (sometime in the nineties, when Power Rangers and Full House ruled the school), is the overwhelming amount of infomercials that seem to flood every channel.  I have to admit, by the end of each one, I am SOLD on the product.  These are the items I have found most compelling.

1.  The Slap Chop.  Because I am still too cheap to buy a food processor.

2.  The Lint Lizard.  Until I saw this segment, I didn’t even know I was supposed to clean my dryer beyond cleaning out the lint catcher.  Suddenly, it seems vitally important.

3.  The NeatDesk.  This looks potentially life-changing if it actually does what it claims to do.

4.  The Snuggie.  Sure, it looks utterly ridiculous, but it also seems crazy comfortable.

5.  Space Bags.  I have actually purchased these and they are truly fantastic for saving space.

6.  Miracle Blades.  Because who doesn’t need a knife that can slice through a soda can?

7.  Roomba Vacuum.  This is a no-brainer.  I need this.

8.  Debbie Meyer Green Bags.  As someone who hates wasting food, I am really curious to know if these work.

9.  Shed Pal.  My dogs don’t shed, but I’m still crazy about cool pet products.

10.  The Shake Weight.  Is this actually real?  I have no words for this.

Have you tried any of these products?  Do you have any favorite “as seen on TV” finds?

The Magic Bullet is hands down my favourite infomercial and therefore my favourite “as seen on TV” product. My sister and I used to sit an watch the informercial from start to finish because it is TV GOLD. It isn’t a terrible product either…(obviously I had to buy one for her due to our love of the commercial)

I had such high hopes for the BabyBullet infomercial…but alas- it is terrible.

I’ve heard different things about the Magic Bullet. It seems so handy with all the different serving sizes!

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT get the slap chop. It does nto work. If you’re really too cheap for a food processor, go to williams sonoma and get there chopper- it’s only like $40 and actually works (kinda- way better than the slap chop anyway). But really egt a food processor. It’s fantastic.

I’ll trust ya if you say not to get it. I’m thinking of breaking down on the new KitchenAid food processor that I keep seeing commercials for 😉

The green bags definitely work for fruits and vegetables. Tempted to try the lint lizard!!

Good to know about the bags, thank you!

Sadly, I didn’t think that the green bags worked well. I’ve always used a lettuce keeper, though, and that works really well! I have a similar ‘keeper’ for berries.

The Slap Chop. Have it, love it. Actually I have 2! (apparently that’s the only way they sell these things, in multiples)

Haha–yes! Everything on TV seems to be: “and we’ll throw in a second one, completely free!”

Like Renee, I didn’t think the green bags worked very well. And I want a roomba! Our cat rides our cannister vaccuum and it would be great, clean carpets and she’d be amused too. Win/win situation if you ask me. Have a great Wed.

You know what, the Snuggie attracts lint and animal hair and is disgusting. I mean we have one but I want to trash it. ALSO! The green bags are fantastic! And I want a roomba tooooooooooo perhaps they’ll have a two for one deal!
Remember Principle Secret skincare from the 90’s, Lara?! I wanted those products REALLY BAD!

I do remember Principle Secret! I felt about that the way I felt about Proactive in the 00’s–that my life would be saved through perfect skin. Actually, I still kind of believe that 😉

I LUV my Snuggie. Basil loves it too – when he sees me break it out, he knows it’s cuddle time.
The Roomba sucks (or doesn’t, I guess). I got one as a wedding present and barely used it.

Is that the boyfriend pillow thing?! It kind of freaks me out!

Yeah, that’s more than a little creepy. I was actually thinking of this one… http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Product-Innovations-Arm-Pillo/dp/B0062BJQDS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328149810&sr=8-1
