Dear Baby G,
Three months have passed since the day you were born.
Kid, they don’t call it “the fourth trimester” for nothin’. You’re still figuring this world out. Either that, or you already have it all figured out and you’re just pissed that we keep acting like you don’t. Allow me to explain.
You don’t like to sleep. Like, at all. They say most babies sleep a lot in their first few days at least, but since the beginning, you haven’t wanted to miss a thing. We’ve read all the books and done everything right, but you still don’t want to sleep more than two hours at a time, tops. Last night you were up every hour. Sometimes we’ll get really lucky and you’ll sleep for three straight hours, but after two hours, Mommy wakes up and is convinced you must have stopped breathing. Now, you are either still learning how to sleep, or you’re just so busy plotting world domination that you just don’t have time for it. I have a feeling it’s the latter.
You look an awful lot like your daddy, but you know how I know you’re mine? Your appetite. This is connected to that sleep thing I mentioned earlier. You eat a lot like I did when I was pregnant with you: every two hours, or there is a real possibility of a meltdown.
(Incidentally, I joke about knowing you’re mine. Your daddy likes to tease, but your maternity can’t be questioned. I will explain this in further detail in a few years.)
Everyone who meets you says it: you’re just in a hurry to grow up.
You want to ride a bike, eat a cheeseburger, and go to Disneyland. And maybe, just maybe, you want to sleep through the night like the big boys do.
I want these things for you too, G. I really do.
But I’m trying not to want them too much.
Because I know that while the days (and nights) often pass slow…
The years will pass fast.
So let’s make a deal and both be in a little less of a hurry for you to grow up. Because one day not too long from now, I will miss the times when all you wanted to do was sleep on my chest.
With that, let’s go get some sleep.
See you in two hours, sweetheart.
Love, Mommy.

hes so precious!! love love love. especially that last one 🙂
Thanks Elise 🙂 Can’t wait to meet your little man!
Such a little cutie! I just want to snuggle him. Eats every two hours huh? Still? Yikes. Hang in there hon, you’re doing great! Every baby is so different, it’s crazy…I’ll see you at Disneyland in a few years!
Yikes indeed! It’s like he has a magic internal timer that goes off after two hours.
*sniff sniff* – the time really does go by so quick; you blink and it’s gone. One day you are at kindergarten graduation and the next it’s high school. You go from buying Tonka trucks to Toyota trucks. Cherish that precious sleepless little munchkin!
Thanks Missy!
<3 !!!!!!!!!!!! he is such a sweetie!! hope you all get more sleep!
Thanks friend, me too! Would love to talk soon!
Will you be mum or mom? I noticed you signed “mommy”.
Mom 🙂
I have exactly the same feeling of how they will grow and will not depend so much on us. it makes me sad sometimes thinking about it. although the first few months is the hardest one, but it seems to be the best one too, so I’m embracing it just as you do. 🙂
hopefully after the fourth trimester, he decides to sleep some more.
Indeed! Thank you!
I hope you’ll all get some more sleep soon! But you are so right, you’ll miss the days he slept on your chest very soon… Love all the photos!
Thanks Andrea 🙂

He definitely is! Thank you.
Glad you’re soaking it all in Lara. The years do pass by way too quickly.
I feel like it was only yesterday when you were telling our Denver group that you were pregnant with Summer 🙂
Lara, I have never read anything as beautiful as your birth story and the short, yet perfect 3 months you have had baby G. He seems like a ray of sunshine and I can’t wait to meet him! Please keep writing stuff about him forever…it’s getting me excited for my future 🙂 BTW miss and love you and Matthew and hope you are having a wonderful time in Seattle.
Thanks sweetie! We miss you too! Can’t wait for you to meet G.

I always enjoy your sweet comments on facebook, Biz! Thank you!
Hi Lara,
I used to love reading Thinspired and had no idea you still blogged, so it was a nice surprise to stumble across this! Congratulations on the little one.
Glad you found me! Thank you for the congrats!
Checking in…I noticed I couldn’t find you on Twitter. Are you posts now private?
Just wanted to see how the sleep is going now that Baby G is nearly 4 months old.
My main twitter account is @accordingtolara and it is not private.
Sleep is slowly getting better, though I hear there is a big 4-month regression in our future. Things took a turn around Thanksgiving and we are now back to getting 2-3 stretches of 2-3 hours each. This is still not great obviously, but it’s a HUGE improvement from his worst (waking up every sleep cycle of 45 minutes).
I sooo can relate to this post. Now that Shera is 2 weeks old, I can see what you and other mommies were talking about when you guys mentioned sleepless nights. Like G, Shera also has a huge appetite and there was the time where she wanted nothing but clinging on to my chest, and forced me to nurse her for hours. I am tired but want to relish every moment before, like you said, time goes by.
Thank you for a post so fitting with my situation 🙂
